A New Year tarot reading.
This year I wanted to do a tarot reading that helped me prepare for 2026 beyond ‘bring it on’, jump into the brand new energy of the Ace of Pentacles. I wanted a reading to help me be the person I want to be. Not the person who does if that makes sense. Day to day I would like to feel more peace harmony connection and be the kind of person who welcomes others with said (peace harmony connection). I want to feel safe and secure and at the same time flourish, feel joyful, encouraged, excited by possibility and impart same in my tarot readings and life in general.
I want to feel less rushed, less anxious, less questioning about whether I am making the most of my life everyday! Etc.etc. I do not want the uncertainty and doubt of 2025.
And so I thought I'd try a new two card tarot spread. One to integrate 2025 and the second what to explore in 2026…
I pulled the King of cups (integrate) and the 10 of cups (explore)
2025 when we learned to manage our emotions in turbulent times in order to explore emotional fulfilment for ourselves and others in 2026.
The king of cups certainly describes the emotional up and downs of last year. I felt all over the place a lot of the time! One minute all is wonderful, the next feeling stressed and uncertain.
The king of cups, speaks of being the master of emotion, has great emotional capacity and intelligence, is someone who understands how others feel and as well as his own feelings.
The challenge for the King of cups is he doesn’t like to feel out of control, after all he is a king! Feeling a roller coaster of emotions in 2025, vulnerable and insecure at times, is not his strong suit. He loses his confidence.
As an integration card perhaps it is saying we learned to bring emotional intelligence to ourselves and others in those moments. Kindness, understanding, compassion. Perhaps it has made me more compassionate toward others? Or perhaps it’s just saying we got through it, and learned to put less focus on feelings of vulnerability and doubt! (see my earlier blog of the 9 of cups!)
The Ten of Cups. Happy Families. Emotional fulfilment for ourselves and others…
What to explore, the ten of cups. At first sight the card depicts the typical 2.4 happy family, a couple, arms around each other watch their two children play…ten cups crown them, suggesting emotional fulfilment, for themselves and others. Happy families! And there’s the rub. I am single and I don’t have children and family relationships are tricky. As the final card, number 10, in the cup suit, the suit of feelings, the ten represents the final achievement in the journey of love, emotional fulfilment for ourselves and others. It is the card of relationships. I wasrather hoping for the opposite, encouragement to chill and explore say Temperance, or the Queen of wands, another favourite, a free spirit. I have a feeling this card is talking to me about exploring relationships and friendship and feeling part of a happy family…. metaphorically speaking.
I kept on staring at the 10 of cups for a bit more enlightenment …and eventually pulled a clarification card…the knight of pentacles. Boy! He moves forward slowly, making steady progress, he’s accountable, reliable, caring, practical, steady, grounded….

What can I say? I did hear today that being grounded is key to health? (the key to inflammation to be specific which makes a lot of sense) and the knight of pentacles does suggest just keep up the steady work?
I am going to have ponder all this and come back to the blog later.
I just re-read the start and am amused as realise my desire has more connection to the knight of pentacles than I thought…..to feel steady and secure and for others to feel the same. Hmm. Feeling secure is a big theme for all of us. When we feel safe and secure we thrive. Thrive is what I am after.
Emotional fulfillment for myself and others has to be good.
