Feelings versus words in a tarot reading

I just pulled the Four of Wands and realised while I have a strong feeling about this card, I don’t have the words and often end up waffling on….

A couple celebrate as they leave castle walls with cheers from community

The four wands standing apart and yet together with a garland connecting each other makes me thinking of the Prophet speaking on Marriage where he describes two trees standing side by side, looking out into the world: two individuals able to stand tall, looking out into the world from their individual point of view, offering their unique contribution, while holding each other’s backs, supporting each other, giving each other the stability and creative freedom from which to flourish.

Flourish suggests inspiration, creativity, enthusiasm, freedom, growth.  And I love the idea of being in relationship with others in this way, with harmony and stability, in a ‘dynamic’ that harnesses the individual as well as the collective. Forget harness, celebrates the individual spirit within the collective venture. Whether we are talking of a marriage, family, community or office job.

Kahlil Gibran says….edited version!

Let there be spaces in your togetherness, and let the winds of the heavens dance between you. Sing and dance together and be joyous, but let each one of you be alone, and stand together yet not too near together: for the pillars of the temple stand apart, and the oak tree and the cypress grow not in each other’s shadows.

Doesn’t that feel wonderful able to feel free and joyful, inspired by doing your own thing and supported by like-minded souls.  And doesn’t that sound like the ideal place to be creatively productive. Which is why I associate it with the ideal work place.

I realised while this describes a feeling, it doesn’t give me enough words to impart when I am doing a reading.   And also being single and very independant my interpretation has a bit of a focussed slant. So I had to turn to google again and look up what some of my favourite tarot sites say.

These are the bits I am adding to my vernacular when you get the four of pentacles

·      Enjoy this moment of stability, of what you have built/created so far.  Celebrate as it’s a little milestone along the way and be satisfied by your achievement.  (You have turned the three of wands - deciding to expanding your horizons and broadening your reach into the four of wands) Pause a moment to appreciate this before you rebuild the motivation that got you here.  Your vision is beginning to be realised.

·      This is a moment for celebration and gratitude.  It has taken team work, the support of friends and community, and the marriage of many talents to create this inner harmony.

·      Harmony, creativity, unity, community, family, support, achievement.

·      Marry talents and create a place from which to flourish

·      Come home to your creativity

·      Make creativity your home

Given there are four wands on the card, instead of two….I’ve always had this idea of lifting my creative banner, flag, colour, pen, paintbrush, like a warrior and burying it in the ground beside the other three to create the four. Now I realise there’s no need to lift the flag, it is already buried into the ground, stability has been achieved. Satisfaction and harmony achieved. Enjoy before we move onto the 5 of wands, where we need to challenge ourselves further and compete to succeed in our vision. Leading to the six where we achieve recognition and respect.

I learned something today. Take a moment to celebrate the harmonious nature within all this. Be satisfied and grateful and rejoice. I love Tarot as it constantly teaches and gives us ideas to nourish and flourish by.

Do come and have a tarot reading with me in Battersea or online.
