How a Tarot reading asks us to trust our own intuition

There’s one card in a tarot reading that always make me laugh, in more of a rueful rather way than ah ha I know exactly what this means, and that’s the High Priestess.   Especially when a client pulls it as an advice card.  Because the advice is, (I, your tarot reader, can’t give you the answer) YOU have to trust your intuition and tune into your inner wisdom.  You can see the irony for the tarot reader not to mention the client.

Anyone who has tarot readings with me will know, I am very keen on advice cards, because my theory of how life works is…and how best to respond in a tarot reading is ok I have the insight….now what ‘should’ I DO about it.  I am a firm believer that we co-create our lives ….that what we give so we receive…..that the power of intention combined with the universal God love source energy (perhaps ‘spirit’ is a simpler term) holds the potential of life/destiny/possibility. Plus taking action.

I pulled it as a daily reflection card a couple of days ago after a bit of a traumatic incident which involved two ambulances and two nights in A & E…..I suppose I was pondering at the start of day 3 post incident how to respond to it all, what to do today?   Hmm follow my own instincts. Which did make me smile as felt I was being given permission to trust my own intuition (and perhaps not the well meant advice of friends).

My first instinct was, I don’t want to paint, don’t have the energy for creativity, I want to go into the park, commune with nature and then go on to the local library and find a good book. I haven’t had a good book by my bedside for months. And reading more, there are so many great books I havent read, is high on my what I would like to achieve before I die happy list.   And so I did that instead, and how stimulated and nourished I felt by the trees in the park and in conversation with the very well read librarian about books and the authors we loved. I left with three, among them A Confederacy of Dunces, which I have been meaning to read for years. It was an ‘action’ which I owe to the High Priestess.

the high priestess

She trusts her own intuition and keeps her emotions at her feet

The very next day a client pulled it.  Very nonplussed, we discussed what meaning the High Priestess held for him.

With the Moon (emotions) at her feet, she is able to tune into her own innate wisdom. Sitting between two pillars in Solomon’s temple she understands the mystery of duality, how good and bad, the shadow and the light, yin yang masculine and feminine, while opposites co-exist and thrive side by side.  She knows how to navigate between what she knows consciously and what is unconscious.   She is being asked to have complete control of her emotions, in order that her intuition will give her the answer, and let what is hidden to her come to the surface.  With her emotions at her feet she is able to be quiet, patient, letting go of the intellect and resting in honesty and trust. She knows the answer she seeks will come from deep within. A believer in magic, she intuits the deep mysteries of life. I wish him luck.

Do come and have a tarot reading with me, even if we end up discussing the meaning of a card to unravel its message for you in a reading.
