The balance of give and take in a tarot reading is depicted in the Six of Pentacles
A man is giving coins from one hand and holding the scales of balance in the other…..
A client got the six of pentacles yesterday to represent themselves in relation to his ex. I studied it for a second as in an ideal world this is the card of reciprocity in the sense of ‘what you give, so you receive’. He responded quite definitively ‘there’s nothing coming from her.’
Often when I see this card in relationship spreads it speaks to an imbalance of give and take. …and because it is in pentacles, the coins of tarot, and because his root card was the Queen of Pentacles, who brings value and wants to be valued, it made me wonder that perhaps we were talking about his desire to become more successful and productive in his work in order to be able to support his ex in a practical and perhaps financial way.
Curiously later on in the day another client pulled the six of pentacles in a relationship spread and I got the same response from her. He gives me nothing.
Twice in one day, made me wonder whether I should be taking more notice of the six of pentacles and asking myself whether the balance of give and take is healthy in my life. Answer no! I should add there’s a feeling of good health depicted in the six of pentacles when the exchange of give and take in balance. In good health we have enough energy to share with others, to share with society, or give to society.
It’s the card of karma, so ye sow, so shall ye reap. The image on the card of a man giving to the poor on one hand and at the same time holding the scales of balance, of compassion and fairness in the other, represents the concept of balancing our health with charitable giving. The Americans are the best at this, and many tithe 10% of their income to charitable causes, holding the idea of giving to the less fortunate and paying back what you can to society. It’s also the card of investing in your situation, sometimes we need to spend money to invest in ourselves.
I think I have more to learn from the six of pentacles. Perhaps I need to do some charity work?
