The Check-In Tarot Reading

Many people come and have a tarot reading when they can’t think of anything else to do that might solve their conundrum.

They’ve tried everything and might as well see what the Tarot has to say. They are ready to turn to Divination.

the match is struck

the match of inspiration is struck with the Ace of Wands.

I’m talking about people who might have been trying to solve, work out, make a decision about the conundrum of feeling a bit lost, a bit directionless, a bit purposeless, a bit I don’t know what to do about….

They come to have a tarot reading to see if they can gain some clarity and direction that might solve their conundrum.   And indeed in my experience they can and do..

Which is why I’d like to recommend having readings more frequently so we don’t have to loiter in these conundrums for so long.  I’d like Tarot to be seen as a very practical tool for daily life.

The tarot teaches you to trust your own intuition primarily.  Which is obviously the lacking feature of being in a conundrum you can’t see your way through.

the high priestess

She teaches us to trust our own Intuition.

So often you have a tarot reading and nothing it says is a surprise.  More often the reading offers an idea you already had and but hadn’t got the confidence to act on.   Offers a fresh perspective in which options look more possible and inspiring.

This kind of crossroads is not obviously dramatic, but if a tarot reading can get you out of feeling stuck in a rut, aimless, anxious, what’s not to love?  It can be life changing.  Or at the very least a transition.

There are plenty of times when what prompts a tarot reading is a lot more dramatic, a break-up, a lost job,  a very present dilemma and challenge of some sort.  Tarot is known to be good in these moments.

I would like to make the argument however that Tarot can be used in an every day  sort of way, just like people go the the gym, or swim, or have a trainer, or go to the acupuncturist every now and then to keep their bodies on track.  What about our psyche? Our mood, our feelings, our inspirations?

Its also very enjoyable!  Just as I love playing tennis and know it is so good for me, yes I get exercise, yes I’m outside in fresh air, but more importantly it lifts my spirits its fun, it clears the cobwebs, distracts my from over thinking, which is exactly what a tarot reading does.  It lifts the spirits primarily, because when our energy is clogged up with anxiety, not knowing what to do, vagueness, a lack of direction sort of just meandering around, it actually takes away your energy.  We need, well I need to be inspired, gaining clarity and direction in a tarot reading does that for me big time.

It's also fascinating.

How does it work?

It is magic!

When we turn to divination, we are turning to the divine.  The divine is ourselves perhaps or the Divine mystery of life.  I don’t know but it adds a whole other level of fascination and appreciation to the day.

Here’s a typical Check-In tarot reading that gives us insight into…….

The present situation…..what’s going on?

The challenge?

What’s uppermost on your mind?

What’s the underlying motivation, what are you heading towards, or heading away from?

Future next step

Future self

What’s going on in your heart

What are your hopes and fears

Where its leading?

And finally how the past may help and bring understanding?

So much information in ten minutes.  Which is how I start all my readings, just to get things on the table.  From there we can move onto different areas of our lives, ask different questions.

To my mind…the benefit of asking these questions on a regular basis is to bring a bit more consciousness to what we are doing.  Bring more meaning to our daily lives.  Bring more satisfaction.  Bring more easy and optimism.

Do come and have a tarot reading with me online or in Battersea.  It would be my pleasure and hopefully yours.
