The Hermit teaches us to follow our own inner light

The Hermit trust his own inner light to follow his path

At a glance the Hermit looks like someone who holds his own counsel.  He looks like someone who doesn’t need to ask the opinion of others.  He goes it alone relying on his inner the wisdom and the lamp he is holding to show him the way step by step. He isn’t looking way down the path but is just focussing on where he is now and his next step forward.

He’s a very cool dude, as I see it, because someone who knows their own mind, and who trusts their own instincts to follow their own path is someone to be admired.  

The Hermit follows his own path….

Tarot people also call him the Teacher, and indeed if you have a Hermit in your midst, you know it in their quiet confidence, sense of integrity, and a certain independence of mind. They’re definitely not influenced by social media or keen to follow the crowd, rather they go about life with a sense of inner knowing and purpose. 

Rather than following the herd the Hermit is a leader but not in the bossy boots style, more a leader by example.  And we need more of those on the planet. 

I think the tricky thing for a Hermit must be, to be true to themselves and at the same time part of society, be sociable, have a laugh, belong, be part of a friendship group/family.  It’s probably a bit of a push pull endeavour.

I say that, as I aspire to being the Hermit and at the same time love to be sociable and part of a gang.  I always say the Hermit isn’t a loner or lonely and can be a charismatic leader, however there is a singularity that sets them apart from the crowd.   ‘Know thyself’ is the teaching of the Hermit. They epitomise Integrity. We can take inspiration from the Hermit by finding the time to tune into our own inner wisdom, follow our own instincts, and integrity, step by step, day by day, and see where it leads us. 

To me this is what having a tarot reading does. Reminds us that we do ‘know’ we do have our own inner light to trust and follow.

This year, 2025, the numerology = 9 = The Hermit - no 9 in the Major Arcana and so we are all working with this Archetype.    We are all being asked to tune into ourselves and follow our own light on the path that is right for us.
