The King of Swords versus the Knight of Wands in a tarot reading

What’s the difference between taking control of life by using the power of your mind, your intellect, your sense of justice to ‘do the right thing’ and letting your inspiration and passion for life fire you up to be bold adventurous confident in the pursuit of what you desire?

An interesting two card reading I just pulled for this week’s blog.  What a contrast of styles.   And yet together they make a pretty dynamic combination.

Using discernment and intellect to be bold and follow your passion

The King of Swords is highly discerning and uses their intellectual power to make logical decisions.  They’ve travelled through the sword suit and learned from hard experience to become the king of integrity, authority, a powerful communicator and advocate of ‘truth’.     Whereas the Knight of Wands is all fire and passion, dynamic confident and impulsive, their infectious energy and charisma is what powers things forward but often the knight of wands hasn’t through it through yet, and is running a bit wild.

For me the two give value to the difficult journey of the Swords, where we learn how to live our truth and the power of following our passion as routes to freedom and full expression.  And Wands, the power of following what we desire.

The King of Swords communicates a strong sense of justice to live life in truth and integrity.   Whereas the Knight of Wands has the dynamic energy of raw passion.  It’s hard for a knight of wands NOT to bold and confident follow his passion.

I have an uncomfortable relationship with the King of Swords, as I am resistant, rebellious, afraid of authority figures….I also paint the king of swords with his less admirable traits of being critical, judgemental and arrogant and ‘always right’.

Whereas I am more forgiving when I consider the selfishness and recklessness of the knight of Wands, and how often he might break a girl’s heart by rushing in with all the confidence and excitement of the moment and then rush off…. Because I value passion above intellect.  All that charisma and sense of adventure is fun to be around.   The Knight of Wands reminds of the formula 1 racing driver James Hunt who won the grand prix in 1976. Boy he was charimatic!

Whereas the King of Swords…..i think of my Dad when he was in non speaks mode hidden behind his newspaper, too intellectual to bother with us….(Ironically of course in hindsight his reverse was the King of Cups.   Someone with deep emotions.  He could have embraced his king of swords a bit more and learned how to express his feelings without feeling out of control) I think of men in general who’ve been to university and are better educated than me! Captains of Industry. (And perhaps the bit of me that likes to be in control and thinks she’s ‘right’!)

Whereas passion, I’m good with passion.  Perhaps because I can get pretty fired up myself about things I love. And I love it when others are fired up, all that raw energy doesn’t intimidate me at all.

As ever with a tarot reading it gives you an opportunity to refect and learn and gain clarity about yourself where you stand and what you’d like to embody. A reading inspires and gives good logical advice.

Do come and have a tarot reading with me in Battersea or online.  I do so many readings online and they work very accurately I find, as well as feeling just as connected.
