The two of cups is about choosing to connect to love
The two of cups represents an emotional choice. Two = Choice. Cups = Emotions.
When I see the two of cups in a tarot reading it immediately conjours up the feeling of deep connection between people who love each other, between friends, family, lovers, partners where the bond is heart to heart and one of equality and mutual feeling.
the two of cups. a relationship based in friendship and mutual attraction
You just have to look at the card. A young man and young woman are standing face to face offering a cup to the other. The figures depicted are of equal size as are the cups they offer suggesting an equal and mutual exchange. A partnership based in friendship. As people, they believe in soul mates and true love and want to make the world a happier place. As an object, the two of cups refers to choosing to connect to ‘things’ we love. Our work, hobbies etc.
Above the two is a caduceus (from the staff of Hermes, representing harmony, negotiation and amicable resolution) and a chimera, that symbolically reflects the elusive, ephemeral quality that governs this kind of partnership as well as the fire and passion. Both speak to the interwoven nature of the bond of soul mates, whether kith or kin and the communication required.
I pulled it this morning. My sister is staying. As you know I pull cards regularly to give me a perspective, a lens through which to reflect on my day. How perfect to receive the two of cups. The soul mate card.
Ten of cups, emotional fulfilment for yourself and others.
As with the 10 of cups which at its most positive is all about happy families, emotional fulfilment for yourself and others…this card also encompasses all that comes with relationships, complications and differences. We may be soul mates but there’s plenty of room for disagreement. Often I find myself often ‘there’s no such thing as happy families’, certainly not all of the time. And so for the first time I particularly reflected on the Caduceus and Chimera symbolism of the two of cups, because much as I love my sister we are quite different.
I consider best friends, partners, lovers, siblings all have a soul mate connection, and that perhaps we are here to work out some kind of soul agreement.
So I am putting my attention for the day into nurturing the bond I have with my sister and remembering the nature of equality and mutual respect inherent in any loving relationship.
