Why have a tarot reading?

What draws us to have a tarot reading?

What leap of faith makes us book a reading?

the fool take a leap of faith

The Fool, the first card of the Major Arcana, takes a leap of faith into the unknown….

What makes us think a tarot reading will have answers and give us clarity?

Often people come to me, saying there’s nothing specific ….I just want to see what is going on.

A question I might pose would be β€˜why do you ask? Is there something missing?’ More than likely in reply I’d receive an initial shrug and then after some thought beyond the immediate distractions and challenges of the day to day, the relentless pursuit of career, success, happiness…are able to articulate what is missing…peace of mind certainly, but more…a lack of clarity, dissatisfaction even, a feeling of β€˜there’s got to more to life than this?’, a longing for something that we can’t name.

See my blog earlier on the Moon.

Quite often clients say β€˜I want to find my purpose’, they actually ask β€˜What is my purpose’ hoping that the Tarot can tell them. Mind you, I so completely understand the feeling.   The Longing. Amidst this crazy life we are all trying to make meaning of our lives. Our noses are pressed so close to the window we can’t see anything other than what needs to be done next or in my case β€˜am I doing the right thing/doing my best’

The Persian poet Rumi writes β€˜out beyond ideas of wrongdoing and rightdoing, there is a field. I’ll meet you there.’  Which helps me understand the field that we connect to in a tarot reading. We are coming to a reading with a sense of connecting to something other than ourselves, to the cards, to this field, to something Divine, how else would the cards reflect so accurately what is going on.

I would like to suggest we all come to a tarot reading in our search for fulfilment. We all come with our longing to be connected to something greater than ourselves to give us meaning.

If you come for a tarot reading with me in person in Battersea or online I will do my β€˜best’ to be a conduit of the divine guidance, wisdom and meaning the Tarot offers.

Our next question should be β€˜how can 78 Tarot cards hold so much information and be a system that gives meaning to every aspect of the human experience?’ (next blog)
