How does Tarot work?
What is going on?
How ???? (out of 78 cards of a tarot deck spread out before us and face down) do we choose cards that directly speak to us? How do we choose cards that reflect what is going on in our lives, that show us the potential ahead and at the same time offer insight about how to make the most of it!
How does that happen? My view is that when we come to the tarot the magic is in our Intention and an innate trust in the divination power of Tarot cards that connects us to ‘a field’ wherein the cards we choose are right for us and give us the insight we desire (that we cannot reach directly) but often know deep inside ourselves. It is as if the cards are a gateway to this ‘knowing’. One name for this field is the Akashic records, wherein everything that has ever happened, all our lives and memories of passed generations is held, AI Google described it a compendium of all human events, thoughts, words, emotions, and intent ever to have occurred in the past, present, or future’.
This is how Rumi the great Sufi mystic and poet described the field in this poem
Out beyond ideas of wrongdoing and rightdoing,
there is a field. I’ll meet you there.
When the soul lies down in that grass,
the world is too full to talk about.
Ideas, language, even the phrase each other
doesn’t make any sense.~
The breeze at dawn has secrets to tell you.
Don’t go back to sleep.
You must ask for what you really want.
Don’t go back to sleep.
People are going back and forth across the doorsill
where the two worlds touch.
The door is round and open.
Don’t go back to sleep.
I like being reminded ‘Don’t go back to sleep. Ask for what you want’.
The guest house is a favourite poem that describes welcoming every emotion and situation in our lives.
Tarot is a doorway, threshold, to this. Again I don’t understand how or why and perhaps that’s the point, it’s mystery and unknowability, mirrors the extraordinariness of this world and how it works. It is magic to me. Magic that works. Magic that somehow connects us to answers, insights, understanding in response to our questions. And that somehow the magic flowers as a result of pure intention and curiousity, as we learn to trust our response to the cards, and more importantly trust our own intuition. What it gives us is a deepening understanding a broader and more expansive perspective of ourselves and our lives.
Do come and have a tarot reading with me online via WhatsApp (or Zoom) or come to Battersea for an in person reading and we can explore the mysterious field described within the seventy eight cards of a tarot deck.
